Spring time in Hawke’s Bay
Well haven’t we had a roller coaster of weather over the last few weeks! Hopefully we are all rained out and the endless summer days aren’t far away. With summer on the horizon we thought it would be a good time to remind you about a few of our favourite spring events that are back. Plus, give you some ideas for exploring Havelock North and beyond!
Stroll through the Redwoods.
It’s a stunning time to be walking through the Redwoods, that are up Te Mata Peak – if you can over jump the odd puddle! Everything is looking lush and green, it’s the perfect spot for an afternoon walk.
The ‘Big Redwoods Track’ is the shortest and most direct option to the Redwoods. Taking roughly 1-hour, this is a relatively flat 2.7km loop offers unparalleled views of the Heretaunga Plains, native bush and the slumbering giants.
F.A.W.C!
If you’re a local, you already know – F.A.W.C! is back for the first 2 weeks of November and it’s bigger than ever! For those of you who don’t know F.A.W.C! (Food and wine classic) is a bi-annual Hawke’s Bay event series, that is known for have a stellar line up with a great mix of events to suit every vibe.
There are so many awesome events lined up in Havelock North and wider Hawke’s Bay. It’s definitely been hard trying to pick which ones to attend! If you haven’t got your tickets yet, there a still a few remaining on some events – but get in quick because sell-outs are a regular occurrence!

Weekend Music Sessions
As we start to see sunnier days, we become spoilt with endless outdoor music sessions around Hawke’s Bay. If your all about sunshine, relaxing weekends and good wine (or beer, or cider!) then your going to be in heaven as the line-up for this summer season is already amazing and we’re sure there is more to come!
We can’t really pinpoint just one place to spend your weekends but if you do some solid planning now, then you should be able to get around to everyone by the end of the summer season!

Havelock North Village Street Carnival
The Havelock North Village Street Carnival is back again for 2019. It is a day celebrating our village and all the amazing businesses that make us such a special destination.
For one action-packed day, the roads are closed, and Havelock North village comes out onto the street for our biggest day of the year. It’s chock full of events, entertainment and endless market stalls. All happening on Saturday 23rd November from 10am.
This year there are 3 great contests to get involved too –

Bike the Napier Seawalls
We’ve said it once and we have no problem saying it again – Hawke’s Bay is the perfect place for a bike ride. We have endless bike trails for all capabilities, wants and needs! Winery trails, check. Scenic River trails, check. Mountain bike trails, check. Now, Art trail, Check!
Recently we made the most of a gloriously sunny Sunday and hired bikes from Fish Bike, on Marine Parade. The purpose was to view ‘Seawalls: Art for oceans’ murals scattered through the city and Ahuriri. The first amazing pieces of art were commissioned with a purpose back in 2016/17 – to highlight the fragility of the world’s oceans and the issues growing we are facing. What started with 29 murals around Napier city has grown to a movement of 350 murals spread across 15 countries, with 50 of the stunning ARTvism pieces now in our backyard. The colourful works of art all bring attention to different problems – endangered species, the danger of plastic to ocean life, over-fishing and much more all with the aim of starting a conversation.
If you’re looking for new bicycle adventure, we highly recommend the Seawalls. You can very easily make a day of it by stopping at the many cafes, restaurants and bars you’ll pass along the way.
